a slip of white string, a knot

in a length of rope

 

four times nothing still is. i look,

& i am leaving. little buds.

 

gin & hot water, lemon. a place

to live, & a place to die.

 

engine coolant & a bus ticket.

im not even in love

w/ love anymore

 

if there was ever such a need

as that

 

small bonfires burn

in the heart, start now

to smoke

 

the empire of the heart

requires water

shimmer

 

                watching water

pool & slowly move

across the pavement, ease

 

                        & stop, & ease

disappearing in the sun

     & stops, ocean smooth

but shimmer

 

                 snail-slow

& spends the whole day

    moving six feet

                     down,

w/ what remains

                         after the heat

        has taken
